This type of sensor can detect motion in a full circle around its installation point. It doesn't have blind spots, making it ideal for covering a wide area. Most standard indoor movement detectors use PIR technology. PIR sensors detect changes in infrared radiation, which occur when a warm body moves within the sensor's field of view.
